What Exactly is a Take?
In Sabes Pro, a Take is a clean, instant snapshot of your DAW session captured the moment you hit save (Ctrl+S). Each Take stores the session file changes, exact date and time, track count, and plugin list. Instead of filling your drive with 50 giant duplicate folders, Sabes Pro saves only the unique altered backup blocks, keeping disk usage tiny.
Where to Find Your Timeline in the App
When you click on any tracked project from your Projects Hub, you enter the Take Timeline view. Here is how the screen is laid out:
- Center Timeline Feed: A vertical list showing every Take in reverse chronological order, with the newest save at the top. Each row displays the save time, relative time (like "10 minutes ago"), and brief change notes.
- Right Action Panel: When you click on any Take row, the right panel lights up with detailed metadata (file size, track count, plugin names) and primary action buttons.
- Top Search & Filter Bar: Use the search box at the top to filter takes by note description or search for bookmarked milestones.
1. Bookmarking and Pinning Important Takes
During a long mixing or recording day, you will probably save dozens of times. When you hit a major milestone (such as "Drums Tuned & Quantized" or "Lead Vocal Comped V1"), you should bookmark that Take:
- Click the Star icon (Bookmark) on the Take row, or click Bookmark Take in the right action panel.
- Type a quick note describing the milestone and hit Enter.
- Bookmarked takes are permanently protected against automatic storage cleanup and can be filtered in one click using the Starred Only toggle.
2. Forking an Alternate Experiment (Fork Take)
Want to try a crazy idea without messing up your main mix? (For example, deleting the heavy guitar layers and trying an 80s synth pad instead):
- Select the Take you want to start from on your timeline.
- Click the Fork Take button in the right action panel.
- Enter a name for your branch (for example, "Synth Pop Arrangement").
- Sabes Pro branches your timeline. Now, when you save in your DAW, new Takes will be linked to your experiment branch. You can switch back to your main timeline anytime.
3. Combining Takes
If you and a collaborator worked on two separate branches or you want to consolidate a sequence of draft saves into one clean milestone:
- Hold Ctrl and click to select both Takes on your timeline.
- Click Combine Takes in the action bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Sabes Pro will merge their backup blocks into a single consolidated milestone Take row, keeping your project history clean and uncluttered.
4. Restoring or Exporting a Previous Version
If a bad edit or accidental deletion ruined your current session, restoring an earlier Take takes two clicks:
- Restore Take (In Place): Click the Take you want to go back to, and click Restore Take. Sabes Pro will automatically create a quick safety snapshot of your current working directory first, and then revert your active project file to that exact chosen point in time.
- Export Standalone (Safe Copy): If you want to keep your current session open and just extract a historical Take into a separate folder, click Export Standalone. Sabes Pro creates a clean ZIP or project copy in your chosen folder without touching your active project.
